Sightseeing in Germany
Germany sits at the heart of Europe and boasts many wonderful vistas and popular tourist spots millions of people visit every year. If you are heading into Germany for business or pleasure, there are a number of locations you should visit. Here are our recommendations:
- Neuschwanstein Castle: This beautiful castle sits in southwest Bavaria on a hill. With numerous windows and impressive towers, this castle was the actual inspiration for the various Sleeping Beauty castles in the Disneyland theme parks.
- Brandenburg Gate: The most famous gate in Berlin, and Germany as a whole, the Brandenburg Gate was a famous crossing point between East and West Berlin during the Cold War before the reunification. Another distinction held by the gate is that it is considered one of the most famous landmarks in Europe.
- Cologne Cathedral: Cologne’s most famous landmark, it is the largest Gothic cathedral in Germany. Construction of the cathedral started in 1248 and took over 600 years to complete. It was built to honor St. Peter and St. Mary and is the seat of Cologne’s Catholic Archbishop.
- Frauenkirche: Known as the “Church of Our Lady” in English, this is a famous Lutheran church that was leveled when the city of Dresden was bombed during World War II. It was reconstructed and later opened in 2005.
