Getting Your Passport Ready for an Overseas Trip
Before you book a flight to Israel, or any other country overseas, make sure you have a passport. Even if you are not taking a trip abroad in the near future, it does not hurt to prepare for it and getting a passport can be quite time consuming. Here are some tips to make the process easier and expedient.
- Check the State Department’s website thoroughly for the steps you must take to obtain a passport or renew. This includes filling out several forms and taking two passport-appropriate photographs. The requirements are listed on the website.
- When mailing your application, write the word “EXPEDITE” on the shipping envelope to help speed up the process.
- You can have your passport expedited for an extra fee, $60 plus overnight delivery. Expect to spend over $100 using this method.
- You can use an outside passport service that can make the process even faster. You will most likely have to pay upwards of $200-$300 to get your passport within 24 hours, however. This should only be considered if you need your passport within a week’s time.
